I have never played chess. Where do I start?
Right where you are. Open La Reina's School from the home screen and begin with Unit 1. Units 1 to 5 are free and take you from how the pieces move, through check, checkmate and the special rules, to your first full game with La Reina beside you. If you would rather read first, every rule is written out on the rules of chess pages.
My progress or my games are gone
Your course progress, your games and your settings live in this browser on this device, not on a server. They stay put through updates, but three things lose them: clearing your browser's data for this site, playing in a private or incognito window (which forgets everything when it closes), and switching to another browser or another device, which starts fresh. There are no accounts yet to carry progress from one device to another.
Playing a friend
Tap Play a friend on the home screen and pass the device between moves. White moves first. La Reina can still point out a piece left in danger, and you can have the board turn round for each player.
Playing offline
Once lareinachess.com has loaded, the whole game works with no connection: the course, games against the machine, La Reina's help and reviews, and the archive. On a phone you can add it to your home screen from the browser's share or menu button, and it opens like an app.
La Reina said something that looks wrong
She can be. Her explanations come from the game's own engine, and we would like to know when one misses. Open the game menu, choose Copy the moves (PGN), and paste them into an email to [email protected] with the move she talked about.
Deleting your data
There are no accounts, so there is nothing of yours on our side to delete. To erase what the game keeps on this device, clear this site's data (lareinachess.com) in your browser's settings. That removes your course progress, your games and your settings for good, and the game starts again from the first lesson.
